Dr Ruby Whitelaw

Practice Development Advisor - Secure Care

Ruby is a Practice Development Advisor and Secure Care Lead at CYCJ. After qualifying as a social worker in 1998 she continued to progress academically completing the MA in Social Work Management and PG Child Care and Protection certificate before completing her PhD on what supports successful transitions for residential care experienced young people in Scotland in 2022.

Ruby’s practice experience has been predominantly in the third sector where she spent more than 25 years as a residential practitioner and residential, day services, fostering and secure care manager. Before joining CYCJ she was the Quality and Safeguarding Manager within Kibble.

Ruby’s publication interests include secure and residential care; educational trajectories; transitions; brothers and sisters; race, equality and diversity; and adversity and trauma.
